Introduction
At Prometheus, Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs) play a crucial role in overseeing patient care and safety.
Validation of NMC Pin
NMC Pin Validation: All RMNs are required to have a valid NMC pin. Prometheus conducts its own verification process.
Role as Nurse in Charge
Nurse in Charge: RMNs assume leadership responsibility during duties within Prometheus.
Completion of Job Paperwork
Job Paperwork: RMNs are responsible for completing paperwork for each job undertaken, as explained by department protocols.
Handling Incidents and Interventions
Incidents and Interventions: RMNs must complete relevant forms for any incidents, physical interventions, or near misses they are present for.
Use of Handcuffs Protocol
Handcuffs Protocol: Handcuffs are a last resort after attempting all other restrictive interventions, following Ministry of Justice guidelines. Only RMNs can authorise their use, but trained personnel may apply or remove them.
Documentation Requirements
Documentation: RMNs must complete a Handcuff Authority Form and incident report detailing the rationale for handcuff use, alongside job sheets and other relevant documentation.

Clinical Logistics Manager: RMNs should consult the Clinical Logistics Manager for guidance when uncertain about decisions.
Further Discussions and Support
Further Support: The Clinical Logistics Manager will engage with the on-call manager for additional discussions if needed.
